And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.
Just five of you will chase away a hundred enemies, and a hundred of you will cause ten thousand to run away in fear. Your enemies will be defeated in battle before you.
God is promising that when His people are faithful to Him, He will give them supernatural strength and victory over their enemies, even when they are greatly outnumbered.
📚 Historical Context
This verse is part of God's covenant promises to the Israelites as they prepared to enter the Promised Land. God was assuring them that obedience to His laws would result in His blessing and protection. In ancient warfare, being outnumbered usually meant certain defeat, so this promise of miraculous military success would have been especially meaningful to a small nation surrounded by powerful enemies.
