And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.
If anyone from the people of Israel, or any foreigner living among you, eats any kind of blood, I will turn against that person who eats blood and remove them from their community.
God is declaring that eating blood is absolutely forbidden for His people, and anyone who does this will face serious consequences and be cut off from the community.
📚 Historical Context
In ancient Israelite society, blood was viewed as the life force of an animal and was considered sacred, leading God to prohibit its consumption as part of the covenant laws given to Moses on Mount Sinai. This rule was embedded in a broader set of instructions for sacrifices and clean living, which helped the Israelites maintain separation from surrounding pagan cultures that often misused blood in rituals. It also emphasized proper animal slaughter and the dedication of blood to God in worship practices.
