He shall therefore burn that garment, whether warp or woof, in woollen or in linen, or any thing of skin, wherein the plague is: for it is a fretting leprosy; it shall be burnt in the fire.
The priest must burn that piece of clothing completely in the fire, whether it's made of wool or linen fabric, or anything made of leather that has this infection in it. This is a destructive skin disease, so it must be completely burned up.
God is commanding that any clothing or leather goods infected with a serious skin disease must be completely destroyed by fire to prevent it from spreading.
📚 Historical Context
In the ancient Israelite community, God gave detailed laws through Moses to maintain purity and prevent the spread of diseases, as the people were wandering in the desert after their exodus from Egypt. Leviticus 13 specifically deals with identifying and handling conditions like leprosy or mildew on clothing and other materials, which were viewed as sources of ritual uncleanness that could defile the community. Burning infected items was a prescribed method to ensure the holiness of the camp and protect the people from both physical and spiritual contamination.
