And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.
You must give this command to the priests who are carrying the ark of the covenant: 'When you reach the edge of the Jordan River, step into the water and stand still there.'
God is telling Joshua to instruct the priests to step into the Jordan River and wait there while carrying the sacred ark.
📚 Historical Context
In the Book of Joshua, the Israelites were on the verge of entering the Promised Land after forty years of wandering in the wilderness, following their exodus from Egypt. Joshua, as the new leader succeeding Moses, received divine instructions to guide the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant to the edge of the Jordan River and stand in its waters as an act of faith. This event foreshadowed God's miraculous intervention, where the river would part, allowing the nation to cross safely and claim the land He had promised.
