And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
And the LORD said to Joshua, 'Today I will begin to show all Israel how great you are, so they will know that just as I was with Moses, I will be with you too.'
God is promising Joshua that He will publicly demonstrate His support for him as the new leader, just as He did with Moses.
📚 Historical Context
At this point in the biblical narrative, Joshua had recently been appointed as the leader of the Israelites following Moses' death, as they prepared to enter the Promised Land after years of wandering in the wilderness. The Israelites were on the brink of crossing the Jordan River, a critical event that required faith and obedience to God's commands. God spoke these words to Joshua to affirm His ongoing presence and authority, linking Joshua's role directly to the legacy of Moses to build confidence among the people.
