📚 Historical Context

In the Book of Jonah, the prophet Jonah was initially commanded by God to go to the city of Nineveh and warn its people of their wickedness, but he disobeyed and fled in the opposite direction, leading to his being swallowed by a great fish. After Jonah repented and prayed from inside the fish, he was vomited onto dry land, showing God's mercy. Now, in Jonah 3:1, God speaks to Jonah a second time, offering him another opportunity to carry out his prophetic mission.
