Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.
Go tell everyone, spread the word far and wide, don't hold back! Babylon has fallen, their gods Bel and Merodach are completely destroyed. All their idols are shattered, their false gods are nothing but broken pieces.
When God moves, even the mightiest empires and their fake gods crumble, and everyone needs to know about it.
📚 Historical Context
Jeremiah was a prophet in ancient Judah during the 6th century BC, a time when the Babylonian Empire had conquered Jerusalem and exiled many Jews. In this verse, he issues a proclamation for the nations to announce Babylon's downfall, emphasizing the defeat of its gods like Bel and Merodach to highlight God's supremacy over false idols. This prophecy was part of a larger message of hope for the exiled Israelites, foretelling the end of their oppressors.
