As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.
Just like when Sodom and Gomorrah got completely wiped out along with all the cities around them, God says no one's going to live there anymore, not a single person will call that place home.
Some places get so destroyed that they become ghost towns forever.
📚 Historical Context
Jeremiah was a prophet in Judah during the late 7th and early 6th centuries BC, a time of political turmoil as the Babylonian Empire rose to power and threatened surrounding nations. In this verse, he prophesies against Edom, using the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, cities from the patriarchal era in Genesis that were obliterated by God for their extreme wickedness, as a vivid example of total devastation. This highlights God's pattern of judging nations that persist in rebellion and moral corruption.
