For thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that remain in this city,
This is what the LORD Almighty says about the bronze pillars, the large bronze basin called 'the Sea,' the movable stands, and all the other sacred items that are still left in this city:
God is speaking through Jeremiah about what will happen to the remaining sacred temple furnishings that are still in Jerusalem.
📚 Historical Context
In the days of the prophet Jeremiah, around the 6th century BC, the kingdom of Judah was facing imminent invasion by the Babylonian Empire due to the people's persistent idolatry and disobedience to God. The "pillars," "sea," "bases," and "vessels" referred to sacred objects in the Jerusalem Temple, such as the bronze pillars and the large bronze basin, which symbolized God's presence and covenant with Israel. God was using Jeremiah to warn that these items would be taken to Babylon as part of His judgment on Judah's sins, fulfilling prophecies of exile.
