But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
But if they really are prophets, and if the LORD's word is truly with them, then let them pray to the LORD of hosts right now. Let them ask that the remaining items in the LORD's temple, in the king of Judah's palace, and in Jerusalem won't be taken away to Babylon.
Jeremiah is challenging the false prophets to prove themselves by praying that the remaining temple treasures won't be carried off to Babylon like the earlier ones were.
📚 Historical Context
This was spoken during the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah, after Nebuchadnezzar had already taken some of the temple treasures and many people to Babylon in earlier deportations. False prophets were telling people that the exile would be brief and the stolen temple items would return quickly, while Jeremiah warned of longer judgment to come.
