And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever.
And you will lose the inheritance that I gave you; I will make you serve your enemies in a land you don't know. You have lit a fire of anger in me that will burn forever.
God is warning that because of their disobedience, the people will lose their promised land and be forced to serve enemies in a foreign country.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of the prophet Jeremiah in the 7th and 6th centuries BC, the kingdom of Judah was facing imminent judgment from God due to widespread idolatry, injustice, and covenant unfaithfulness, which had provoked His anger. Jeremiah warned the people that their sins would result in losing their God-given land and being exiled to serve foreign enemies, as seen in the impending Babylonian conquest. This verse reflects the historical reality of Judah's spiritual decline and the fulfillment of God's promises of consequences for disobedience.
