Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to him whom man despiseth, to him whom the nation abhorreth, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and he shall choose thee.
This is what the LORD says, the One who rescues Israel and is completely holy, speaking to someone whom people despise, whom the whole nation hates, who serves under rulers: Kings will see you and stand up in respect, and princes will bow down and worship, because the LORD is faithful and the Holy One of Israel has chosen you.
God is promising that someone who is currently despised and rejected will one day be honored by kings and rulers because God has chosen them.
📚 Historical Context
This prophecy was written during Israel's exile in Babylon, when the nation felt abandoned and hopeless. Isaiah is prophesying about God's servant who would restore Israel, likely referring to the coming Messiah. The 'servant' described here would be rejected by his own people but eventually honored by the nations.
