For thus hath the LORD spoken unto me, Like as the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.
This is what the LORD has told me: Just like a lion and a young lion roaring over their catch, when a crowd of shepherds comes out against them, the lions aren't scared by their shouting or intimidated by all their noise, that's exactly how the LORD of armies will come down to fight for Mount Zion and protect Jerusalem.
God is promising that He will fiercely defend Jerusalem like a fearless lion that won't be scared away by anyone trying to stop it.
📚 Historical Context
During the 8th century BC, the prophet Isaiah warned the people of Judah against forming alliances with Egypt for protection against the powerful Assyrian empire, which was threatening invasion. He used the vivid metaphor of a lion defending its prey to illustrate God's unyielding determination to protect Jerusalem, showing that no human opposition could deter Him. This prophecy was delivered amid the historical context of Assyrian aggression under King Hezekiah, emphasizing reliance on God rather than foreign powers.
