📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, Joseph, who had been sold into slavery by his brothers, rose to become a high official in Egypt and oversaw the distribution of grain during a widespread famine. When his brothers traveled to Egypt to buy food, they interacted with Joseph without recognizing him, and he secretly returned their payment in their grain sacks as part of his plan to test their character. Now, as they prepare for another trip, Jacob instructs them to take double the money and return the original amount, assuming it might have been an accidental oversight by the Egyptian officials.
