📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, Jacob and his family are traveling from Bethel, a significant site where Jacob had previously encountered God and received divine promises of blessing and protection. As they approach Ephrath, which is later associated with Bethlehem, Rachel, Jacob's beloved wife, goes into labor with their second son, Benjamin, facing severe complications during childbirth. This event underscores the harsh realities of ancient nomadic life, including the risks of travel and the vulnerability of women during pregnancy in patriarchal times.
