Thus saith the LORD; They also that uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: from the tower of Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord GOD.
This is what the LORD says: Everyone who's been backing Egypt is going to fall, and all that arrogant power they're so proud of? It's coming down hard. From one end of the country to the other, they'll fall by the sword, that's a promise from the Lord GOD.
When you build your confidence on pride and power instead of God, the fall hits different.
📚 Historical Context
Ezekiel was a prophet during the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BC, delivering messages from God about the judgment of nations that had rebelled against Him. In this verse, he specifically prophesies the downfall of Egypt's allies and the collapse of Egypt's once-mighty power, with Syene (an ancient city near modern-day Aswan) symbolizing a key point of defeat by the sword. This reflects the historical reality of the Neo-Babylonian Empire's conquests, which fulfilled God's warnings against prideful empires.
