And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.
But once he rises to power, his kingdom won't last. It's going to get completely shattered and scattered in every direction. None of his kids will inherit it, and it won't stay as strong as when he was running things. His whole empire will get ripped away and handed over to totally different people.
Even the most powerful kingdoms don't last forever, they crumble and get passed on to unexpected hands.
📚 Historical Context
Daniel 11 is a prophetic vision given to Daniel during the Persian Empire, foretelling events from the Persian kings through to the Greek conquests as part of God's revelation about the interplay of world powers. This verse specifically refers to Alexander the Great, who built a massive empire but died suddenly without an heir, leading to his kingdom being divided among his four generals into regions that spread in different directions. The "four winds of heaven" symbolize the cardinal directions, emphasizing that his empire was not inherited by his family or maintained in its original form, but was instead taken over by others as part of divine sovereignty over history.
