Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
Peter looked at her and said, 'How could you and your husband plan together to test God's Spirit like this? Look, the men who just buried your husband are right outside that door, and they're about to carry you out too.'
Trying to deceive God isn't just foolish, it's dangerous.
📚 Historical Context
In the early days of the Christian church, shortly after Pentecost, believers were voluntarily selling their possessions and sharing the proceeds to support the needy within their community, reflecting a spirit of unity and generosity. Ananias and his wife Sapphira sold a piece of land but lied to the apostles by claiming they were giving the full amount, while secretly keeping some for themselves, which demonstrated a lack of honesty and an attempt to deceive the Holy Spirit. When Peter confronted Sapphira about their collusion in this deception, he warned her that the consequences were immediate and severe, as the same men who had just buried her husband were about to carry her out as well.
