And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the LORD hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
When Peter finally processed what just happened, he said, 'Okay, now I'm absolutely certain, God sent his angel and rescued me from Herod's grip and from everything the Jewish leaders were planning to do to me.'
Sometimes God's rescue is so incredible you need a moment to realize it actually happened.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Acts, which records the early spread of Christianity, King Herod Agrippa I had arrested Peter to please the Jewish leaders who were hostile to the followers of Jesus, as part of a broader wave of persecution against the church. This event occurred in Jerusalem around 44 AD, during a time when Herod was executing church leaders to gain favor with the people. Peter, after being miraculously freed by an angel from prison, comes to his senses and recognizes that God has directly intervened to rescue him from Herod's custody and the threats from the Jewish community.
