📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative of 2 Samuel, King David is fleeing from his son Absalom, who has led a rebellion to seize the throne, forcing David to leave Jerusalem in haste. Ziba, the servant of Mephibosheth (the grandson of Saul and son of Jonathan), approaches David with provisions and deceitfully claims that Mephibosheth has stayed behind to support Absalom's bid for power. As a result, David quickly rewards Ziba by giving him all of Mephibosheth's possessions without investigating the truth.
