And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.
He went out to the spring where the water came from and threw the salt into it. Then he said, 'This is what the LORD says: I have healed these waters. From now on, this water will no longer cause death or make the land unable to grow crops.'
The writer is showing how God used Elisha to miraculously heal poisoned water that had been causing death and making the land barren.
📚 Historical Context
This event occurred shortly after Elijah was taken up to heaven and Elisha inherited his prophetic ministry. The people of Jericho came to Elisha because their city's water supply was contaminated, causing death and preventing crops from growing. This was one of Elisha's first recorded miracles, demonstrating that God's power now rested upon him as Elijah's successor.
