And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee;
Then Jonathan said to David, 'I swear by the LORD God of Israel, when I test my father's feelings about you tomorrow or the day after, if he has good intentions toward you, I promise I will send word to you and let you know.'
Jonathan is making a solemn promise to David that he will find out how his father King Saul really feels about David and will definitely let David know if the news is good.
