Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat: for the LORD hath spoken it.
Anyone from Jeroboam's family who dies in the city will be eaten by dogs, and anyone who dies in the countryside will be eaten by birds. The LORD has declared this will happen.
God is pronouncing a curse on Jeroboam's family line, saying they will have dishonorable deaths with no proper burial.
📚 Historical Context
In the period after King Solomon's death, the kingdom of Israel split into two: Judah in the south and Israel in the north, ruled by Jeroboam. Jeroboam led his people into idolatry by setting up golden calves as objects of worship, which directly defied God's commands and provoked His judgment. As a result, God sent a prophet to declare this curse on Jeroboam's family as a sign of divine retribution for his sins.
