And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.
That coastland is going to belong to the survivors from Judah, they'll graze their flocks there and sleep in the houses of Ashkelon at night. Because the Lord their God is going to show up for them and bring them back from exile.
God doesn't forget his people, he's coming back to restore what was lost.
📚 Historical Context
Zephaniah was a prophet in Judah during the reign of King Josiah around 640-609 BC, a time when the nation was deeply involved in idolatry and facing threats from surrounding empires like Assyria and Babylon. In this verse, God promises that the remnant of Judah, the faithful survivors, will reclaim and settle in the coastal lands, including the Philistine city of Ashkelon, as a sign of His restoration after judgment. This reflects God's enduring covenant faithfulness to His people despite their unfaithfulness.
