And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
But while they were out buying oil, the groom showed up. The ones who were already prepared got to go into the wedding with him, and then the door was closed.
When the moment comes, being prepared is everything, there's no time to scramble.
📚 Historical Context
In the first-century Jewish culture, weddings often involved a bridegroom arriving unexpectedly at night, requiring attendants to have their lamps lit and ready for the procession. This verse is part of Jesus' Parable of the Ten Virgins in the Gospel of Matthew, where five wise virgins prepared extra oil and entered the wedding feast, while the foolish ones did not and were left out. The parable uses this cultural practice to illustrate the urgency of being spiritually prepared for the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven.
