From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
From that moment on, Jesus started telling his disciples the hard truth: he had to go to Jerusalem, where the religious leaders and teachers would make him suffer, kill him, and then on the third day he'd come back to life.
Jesus began preparing his friends for the hardest goodbye that would actually become the greatest comeback.
📚 Historical Context
This verse comes from the Gospel of Matthew, written to a Jewish audience in the first century, shortly after Peter declares Jesus as the Messiah, which prompts Jesus to reveal the full scope of His mission. In the historical context of Roman-occupied Judea, Jesus is preparing His disciples for the intense opposition from the Jewish religious elite, the elders, chief priests, and scribes, who saw Him as a threat to their authority and would eventually conspire against Him. This prediction underscores the inevitability of Jesus' suffering and death in Jerusalem as part of God's redemptive plan.
