And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
When Saturday came around, Jesus started teaching at the synagogue. Everyone listening was completely blown away, like 'Where did this guy even learn all this? How does he have this kind of wisdom? And how is he doing these incredible things with his own hands?'
Sometimes the people who know you 'before' have the hardest time seeing who you've become.
📚 Historical Context
In the historical context of first-century Judea, Jesus returned to His hometown of Nazareth and began teaching in the synagogue on the Sabbath, a day dedicated to rest and religious instruction in Jewish culture. The local people were astonished because they knew Jesus as the son of a carpenter from their community, making His display of profound wisdom and miraculous works unexpected. This reaction reflects the cultural expectation that spiritual leaders typically came from established religious lineages rather than ordinary backgrounds.
