Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.
For seven days you must bring fire offerings to the LORD. On the eighth day, you will have a holy gathering and bring another fire offering to the LORD. This is a sacred assembly, and you must not do any regular work on that day.
God is commanding His people to celebrate with offerings and sacred gatherings for eight days, setting aside regular work to focus entirely on worship.
📚 Historical Context
This verse describes part of the Feast of Tabernacles (also called Sukkot), one of Israel's most joyful festivals commemorating God's provision during their 40 years in the wilderness. The Israelites would live in temporary shelters and celebrate God's faithfulness with sacrifices and community worship. The eighth day was an especially sacred conclusion to this week-long celebration.
