But if the scall be in his sight at a stay, and that there is black hair grown up therein; the scall is healed, he is clean: and the priest shall pronounce him clean.
But if the skin condition appears to have stopped spreading, and black hair has grown in that area, then the condition is healed and the person is clean. The priest will declare him clean.
This verse is saying that when a skin condition stops spreading and healthy hair grows back, the person is healed and ceremonially clean.
📚 Historical Context
In the time of Moses, God gave the Israelites detailed laws in the book of Leviticus to help them maintain physical health and ritual purity as His chosen people, especially in a desert environment where diseases could spread quickly in close communities. These instructions assigned priests the role of inspectors to examine skin conditions, such as scalls or infections, to protect the community and determine when someone was no longer contagious. If signs of healing appeared, like the growth of black hair, it meant the person could be declared clean and reintegrated into daily life.
