📚 Historical Context
The tribe of Dan had been assigned territory in the Promised Land but struggled to fully possess it due to strong Canaanite resistance, particularly from the Philistines. This expedition was part of Dan's search for new land to settle, as they had not been able to secure their original inheritance. The cities of Zorah and Eshtaol were located in the Shephelah region between the hill country and the coastal plain.
