And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
When they blow a long blast on the ram's horn trumpet and you hear that sound, all the people must shout loudly together. Then the wall of the city will collapse completely flat, and each person can go straight up into the city right in front of where they're standing.
God is promising that when the Israelites follow His specific instructions to shout at the trumpet blast, He will supernaturally bring down Jericho's walls so they can enter the city.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, the Israelites, led by Joshua after Moses' death, were conquering the Promised Land as God had promised to their ancestors. Jericho was the first fortified city they encountered, and God gave them unusual instructions to march around it silently for six days, then seven times on the seventh day while blowing trumpets. This event demonstrated God's supernatural power and the importance of faithful obedience in their military campaign.
