And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
When that day comes, you won't need to ask me anything directly. I'm telling you the truth, whatever you ask the Father in my name, he's going to give it to you.
Jesus is saying there's coming a day when you can go straight to God with your requests, and his name is your VIP access.
📚 Historical Context
In the Gospel of John, Jesus is speaking to his disciples during his farewell discourse, shortly before his arrest and crucifixion, as he prepares them for his impending departure and the coming of the Holy Spirit. He is emphasizing a transition from direct interaction with him to a new way of communicating with God, where they will pray directly to the Father. This reflects the Jewish cultural understanding of prayer, but now through the authority of Jesus' name, signifying his role as the mediator between God and humanity.
