Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.
Therefore, I will do to this temple that bears my name, the one you trust in, and to this place I gave to you and your ancestors, the same thing I did to Shiloh.
God is warning that He will destroy the temple in Jerusalem just like He destroyed the sanctuary at Shiloh, because the people are trusting in the building instead of following Him.
📚 Historical Context
In the time of Jeremiah, the people of Judah were trusting in the Temple in Jerusalem as a guarantee of God's protection, even though they were engaging in idolatry and injustice. God uses the example of Shiloh, where the Tabernacle once stood and was destroyed due to Israel's unfaithfulness, to warn that He could do the same to the Temple. This prophecy highlights God's intolerance for hypocrisy and His willingness to judge His own people if they turn away from Him.
