Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.
Attack the land of Merathaim and go after the people of Pekod. Completely destroy them and leave nothing behind, says the Lord. Do exactly what I've told you to do.
When God says it's time for judgment, he means business, no half measures.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Jeremiah, written during the 6th century BC, the prophet is delivering God's message of judgment against Babylon for their oppression of Israel and other nations. Merathaim and Pekod are likely symbolic or regional names referring to parts of Babylonian territory, representing rebellion and the need for divine punishment. This verse is part of a broader oracle where God commands the destruction of Babylon as a means to restore justice and His people's freedom.
