I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.
I have sent all my servants the prophets to you again and again, getting up early to send them with this message: 'Turn away from your evil ways and make your actions right. Don't chase after other gods to worship them, and you will be able to stay in the land I gave to you and your ancestors.' But you have not listened or paid attention to me.
God is saying He repeatedly sent prophets with clear warnings to turn from evil and stop worshiping false gods, but His people refused to listen.
📚 Historical Context
This was spoken during Jeremiah's ministry in the final decades before Babylon destroyed Jerusalem (around 600-586 BC). God had been warning Judah through various prophets for generations about their idolatry and disobedience. The phrase 'rising up early' was a Hebrew expression showing God's eager persistence in trying to reach His people before judgment came.
