And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.
You will not escape from his power, but you will definitely be captured and handed over to him. You will see the king of Babylon face to face, and he will speak with you directly, and you will be taken to Babylon.
God is telling King Zedekiah through Jeremiah that he will be captured by the Babylonian king and taken into exile.
📚 Historical Context
This prophecy was given to King Zedekiah of Judah around 588-587 BC during the final siege of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar's Babylonian army. Zedekiah had rebelled against Babylon despite Jeremiah's warnings, and the city was under its final assault. The phrase 'speak with thee mouth to mouth' proved literally true when Nebuchadnezzar confronted Zedekiah after his capture.
