And he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith the LORD: though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper.
He will take Zedekiah to Babylon, and Zedekiah will stay there until I deal with him, says the LORD. Even if you fight against the Babylonians, you will not succeed.
God is telling His people that King Zedekiah will be captured and taken to Babylon, and any resistance against the Babylonians will fail because this is God's judgment.
📚 Historical Context
During the time of the prophet Jeremiah, Judah was under threat from the Babylonian Empire, as God was using this nation to judge His people for their persistent idolatry and disobedience. King Zedekiah, who had been installed as a puppet ruler by Babylon, rebelled against them, leading to a devastating siege of Jerusalem around 586 BC. Through Jeremiah, God declared that Zedekiah would be captured and taken to Babylon, emphasizing that any military resistance against the Chaldeans would ultimately fail as part of His divine plan.
