But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
But if they really are prophets, and if the LORD's word is truly with them, then let them pray to the LORD of hosts right now. Let them ask that the remaining items in the LORD's temple, in the king of Judah's palace, and in Jerusalem won't be taken away to Babylon.
Jeremiah is challenging the false prophets to prove themselves by praying that the remaining temple treasures won't be carried off to Babylon like the earlier ones were.
📚 Historical Context
In the historical context of Jeremiah 27, the prophet Jeremiah was delivering God's message to the people of Judah during the reign of King Zedekiah, amid the growing threat of Babylonian invasion around 594 BC. God had already allowed the Babylonians to conquer Jerusalem in earlier raids and take some sacred temple vessels as punishment for Judah's idolatry and disobedience. Jeremiah is challenging the false prophets in Judah to prove their authenticity by interceding with God to spare the remaining temple items from being carried off to Babylon.
