For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.
For many nations and powerful kings will also make slaves of them, and I will pay them back for what they have done and punish them according to their own actions.
God is saying that those who enslaved others will themselves become enslaved, and He will give them exactly what they deserve based on their actions.
📚 Historical Context
This verse comes at the end of God's prophecy about Babylon's 70-year dominion over Judah and surrounding nations. While Babylon would conquer and enslave many peoples, God promised that eventually other nations would rise up and conquer Babylon itself. This prophecy was fulfilled when the Persian Empire under Cyrus defeated Babylon in 539 BC.
