And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
I will completely ruin the plans of Judah and Jerusalem in this place. I will let their enemies kill them with swords - those who want to destroy them. And I will leave their dead bodies as food for the birds in the sky and wild animals on the ground.
God is declaring that He will allow Judah and Jerusalem's plans to fail completely, and their people will be killed by enemies with no proper burial.
📚 Historical Context
This prophecy was given during the final years of the kingdom of Judah, likely around 605-586 BC, when Babylon was threatening Jerusalem. Jeremiah was warning that God's judgment would come through military defeat because the people had abandoned their covenant with God. Leaving bodies unburied was considered the ultimate disgrace in ancient Middle Eastern culture.
