Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.
Now go and speak to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem. Tell them this is what the LORD says: 'Look, I am preparing disaster for you and making plans against you. Turn away now, each one of you, from your evil ways, and make your actions and behavior good.'
God is warning His people that He's planning judgment against them, but He's giving them a chance to change their ways and avoid the coming disaster.
📚 Historical Context
This warning came through the prophet Jeremiah around 600 BC, when the kingdom of Judah was spiritually corrupt and politically unstable. The people had turned away from God to worship idols and practice injustice, despite repeated warnings from prophets. Within a few decades, Babylon would indeed conquer Jerusalem and take the people into exile, fulfilling this prophecy.
