Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.

This warning came through the prophet Jeremiah around 600 BC, when the kingdom of Judah was spiritually corrupt and politically unstable. The people had turned away from God to worship idols and practice injustice, despite repeated warnings from prophets. Within a few decades, Babylon would indeed conquer Jerusalem and take the people into exile, fulfilling this prophecy.
