Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.
Then Joseph went and told Pharaoh, 'My father and my brothers have come from the land of Canaan with their flocks, herds, and everything they own. They are now in the land of Goshen.'
Joseph is formally announcing to Pharaoh that his family has arrived in Egypt and settled in the region of Goshen as planned.
📚 Historical Context
In the book of Genesis, Joseph had been sold into slavery by his brothers but rose to become a powerful official in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh, after interpreting dreams that predicted a famine. During this famine, Joseph's family in Canaan was starving, so he invited them to Egypt where food was plentiful. In this verse, Joseph is informing Pharaoh that his father Jacob, his brothers, their flocks, herds, and possessions have arrived safely in the land of Goshen, a fertile area in Egypt ideal for their livestock.
