And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah’s wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
After some time had passed, Judah's wife (who was Shuah's daughter) died. When Judah had finished grieving, he went up to Timnath with his friend Hirah from Adullam to oversee his sheep being sheared.
This verse tells us that after Judah's wife died and he had time to grieve, he returned to his normal activities, traveling with a friend to supervise the seasonal sheep shearing.
📚 Historical Context
This takes place during the time when Jacob's family lived in Canaan, before they moved to Egypt. Sheep shearing was an important annual event that required the owner's presence, often accompanied by celebration and business dealings. Judah had married a Canaanite woman, which was unusual for Abraham's descendants who typically married within their extended family.
