And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
Isaac shook with shock and said, 'Who was it that hunted wild game and brought it to me? I ate it all before you came, and I blessed him! Yes, and he will remain blessed.'
Isaac realizes he has been tricked into blessing Jacob instead of Esau, and declares that the blessing cannot be taken back.
📚 Historical Context
This occurs after Jacob, with his mother Rebekah's help, disguised himself as his twin brother Esau to receive their father's blessing. In ancient times, a father's blessing was considered irrevocable and carried great spiritual and material significance. Isaac, now old and nearly blind, had intended to bless Esau, his favorite son and the firstborn.
