Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.
So Lot chose the entire Jordan valley for himself and traveled east. This is how Abraham and Lot separated and went their different ways.
This verse shows Lot making a choice based on what looked best to him, which led to him and Abraham going separate directions.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative, Abraham and his nephew Lot had returned from Egypt with great wealth in livestock, which caused quarrels between their herdsmen over limited grazing land. To resolve the conflict peacefully, Abraham suggested they separate and generously allowed Lot to choose his portion first. Lot selected the fertile plain of Jordan and journeyed east, leading to their parting ways.
