But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me, and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord GOD:
But the Levite priests who are descendants of Zadok, they stayed faithful and took care of my sanctuary even when everyone else in Israel turned their backs on me. These are the ones who get to come close to me and serve me directly. They're the ones who will stand in my presence and make the offerings of fat and blood to me, says the Lord God.
When everyone else walks away, God remembers the ones who stayed faithful, and they get the closest access to him.
📚 Historical Context
During the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BC, the prophet Ezekiel received visions of a restored temple and renewed worship in Israel, reflecting God's plan for His people's future faithfulness. The sons of Zadok were a specific line of Levitical priests who had remained loyal to God when the rest of Israel turned to idolatry and disobedience, tracing back to Zadok, a faithful high priest under King David. This verse highlights God's promise to reward their steadfastness by granting them privileged roles in temple service.
