As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
I swear on my life, says the Lord God, that king is going to die right there in Babylon, in the very place where the king who put him in power lives. He broke his promises, trashed the deal they made, and now he's going to face the consequences right where it all started.
Break your word, face the music, God sees everything and consequences always come full circle.
📚 Historical Context
Ezekiel was a prophet speaking to the exiled people of Judah during the Babylonian conquest in the 6th century BC. King Zedekiah, whom Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had installed as a puppet ruler, broke his sworn oath of loyalty by rebelling against Babylon, which was seen as a direct violation of God's commands through prior covenants. As a result, God declares through Ezekiel that Zedekiah will face judgment and die in Babylon.
