Ezekiel was a prophet speaking to the exiled people of Judah during the Babylonian conquest in the 6th century BC. King Zedekiah, whom Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had installed as a puppet ruler, broke his sworn oath of loyalty by rebelling against Babylon, which was seen as a direct violation of God's commands through prior covenants. As a result, God declares through Ezekiel that Zedekiah will face judgment and die in Babylon.
