Moreover the spirit lifted me up, and brought me unto the east gate of the LORD’s house, which looketh eastward: and behold at the door of the gate five and twenty men; among whom I saw Jaazaniah the son of Azur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people.
Then the Spirit picked me up and carried me to the east gate of God's temple, the one facing east. And there at the entrance, I saw twenty-five men, including Jaazaniah (Azur's son) and Pelatiah (Benaiah's son), both leaders among the people.
God literally moved Ezekiel to see what the leaders were really up to.
📚 Historical Context
Ezekiel was a prophet living in exile in Babylon during the sixth century BC, when Judah faced judgment from God due to widespread idolatry and corruption among its leaders. In this vision, the Spirit of God supernaturally transports Ezekiel to the east gate of the temple in Jerusalem, where he sees 25 men, including prominent figures like Jaazaniah and Pelatiah, who represented the people's sinful rebellion. This scene highlights God's scrutiny of Israel's leadership amid the nation's impending destruction.
